In 2004, the Arizona State Law Journal held a symposium on lawyer advertising. This summer, the Journal's symposium issue was published. It's a good read for those interested in how we got to where we are. Van O'Steen, who was John Bates' partner when they challenged the constitutionality of the ban on lawyer advertising in 1976, writes a personal account of his experience with the case. I wrote "Clashes of Class and Cash: Battles from the 150 Years War to Govern Client Development," tracing the rule-making of the ABA and the various states. The war is now in its 151st year. Let me know what you think.
